Big Turnout for Women’s Breakfast Gathering

The International Women’s Day event in Greystones saw a significant turnout for the women’s breakfast gathering held at Kilian House Family Centre on Friday morning 7th March. There were well over 100 people in attendance.

The organisers expressed their delight at this large attendance and emphasized the unity and diversity of the participants. “We are all different, yet united in our desire for happiness, belonging, meaning, and making a difference. We all face challenges and joys that come with being alive,” they stated.

Keynote Speakers

The event featured inspiring speeches by Father Damian Farnon, Chaplain to the Irish Defence Forces, and Patricia Coyle, Director of Communications and Spiritual Director.

Father Damian Farnon, who has had two tours of duty with the Irish Defence Forces in Lebanon, shared his experiences and highlighted the Defence Forces’ role in supporting soldiers and local communities, particularly in Camp Shamrock. “Our role is very much to support the soldiers and the communities in Camp Shamrock and the surrounding areas,” he noted.

Patricia Coyle, an award-winning journalist and spiritual director, spoke on the themes of peace and reconciliation. She reflected on the rewarding and satisfying nature of her work in communications and spiritual direction, underscoring the importance of media training and amplifying under-represented voices in society.

Community Impact and Engagement

The speeches resonated deeply with the audience, fostering a sense of community and mutual support. The organisers and attendees alike celebrated the event as a meaningful contribution to International Women’s Day, promoting solidarity and empowerment among women in Greystones and beyond.

Conclusion

The success of the women’s breakfast gathering at Kilian House Family Centre underscores the importance of events that bring people together to share their experiences, challenges, and aspirations. The organisers look forward to continuing this tradition and creating more opportunities for dialogue on faith, learning, and growth in the future.
