KNOCK PILGRIMAGE INVITATION

Message from Deacon Gerard Reilly, Pilgrimage Director:

I am writing to invite your Parish or Partnership to send a bus to Knock for our annual Diocesan Pilgrimage on Saturday, April 27. See attached programme and poster (also available here and here).

The pilgrimage has grown in numbers each year since it was re-launched in 2018 and there is strong interest from across the Archdiocese. Last year, we had a great attendance but are aware that there are parishes or partnerships that have not participated in recent years. In 2024, we are celebrating 145 years since the apparitions in 1879 and this presents an ideal opportunity to invite parishioners to go.

The idea of going on pilgrimage goes back hundreds of years in the Church. In the Middle Ages, crusaders went to Jerusalem try to liberate the Holy City. One of the good things about a pilgrimage is that is gives us an opportunity to step out of our daily lives and try to gain some fresh perspectives on the challenges that we face and to try to learn a bit more about ourselves. It’s also a good opportunity to reflect on our faults and failings, as we all have them, and to ask Our Lady to pray to her son Jesus to help us to overcome them.

Let us pray for the grace to be inspired as we go on pilgrimage to Knock this year, in the words of St Ignatius of Loyola, “to serve God better in the future”.
