On Christmas Eve, a flame originally from The Peace Light in Bethlehem, will light the Christ Light on the Advent Wreaths in our churches. You are invited to take the flame home that night.
The light has been lit from the eternal flame in the Grotto of Christ’s Birth in the Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem.
Earlier in December young Israeli and Palestinian Scouts took this flame and the light began its journey around the world. However, due to logistics it has not reached our shores this year. All is not lost!
This light, originating in Bethlehem, has this year travelled from the Carmelite Sisters in Carlow. The sisters have been keeping it burning for the past number of years.
The light has travelled far, reminding us of the light which came to a dark and fearful world when He who is the Light of the World was born.
You are welcome to bring a candle to the Christmas Eve Mass and following the liturgy, take the flame home. Alternatively, the scouts will be available from 3.30pm on Christmas eve in the Den on Trafalgar Road Greystones. Bring a jar and your own candle to get the flame.
It is our prayer that this light, and all those lit from it, will be a sign of peace, hope and joy in our land, in cities, in our towns and in our villages.
