A gentle and heartwarming short story…

…that reflects the joy of a child whose school bag was blessed, capturing the spirit of new beginnings, faith, and the loving presence of the Church.

“It was a bright Sunday morning, and the church was filled with the sounds of children’s laughter and rustling backpacks. Among them was a little boy named Oscar, his shoes freshly polished, his hair neatly combed, and his school bag, a bright blue one with a rocket ship slung proudly over his shoulders.

Oscar was starting Grade 1 the next day, and though he has been a bit nervous all week, today felt different. Today, he was excited.

When Father Bernardo stepped forward to bless the school bags, Oscar held his bag tightly in front of him, just like the older kids were doing. As the holy water sprinkled gently across the crowd, a little drop landed on the top of Oscar’s bag.

He looked up at his mother with wide eyes and whispered, “Did you see that? My bag got blessed first!”

After the Mass, Oscar told anyone who would listen, Now my bag is ready. It’s got books, pencils, and a blessing from God, His mother smiled, knowing it wasn’t just the bag that had been blessed, it was Oscars heart, filled now with courage and joy.

That night, as Oscar placed his bag by the door, he gave it one last pat and said, “We’re going to do great tomorrow, me and you and God.”
