Welcome to Night Prayer

Night Prayer - A Community Gathering!

We look forward to seeing old friends and making new friends as our faith community gathers for Night Prayer on Monday to Friday nights at 8pm on Zoom.

There’s a welcome for all. You can join from the comfort of your home. Many join us from farther afield than the Pastoral Area, such as, Dublin, Waterford, England, Spain and Slovenia. Some of the regulars when they can’t join from their home have joined us from their cars or even their hospital bed.

Night Prayer takes place Monday to Friday at 8pm, via  Zoom Video Conferencing.

  • The Universalis website has the entire Liturgy of the Hours. The Office of the Night Prayer (Compline) is celebrated through the Church and forms part of the Liturgy of the Hours. The Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office, enriched by readings, is principally a prayer of praise and petition.  It is the prayer of the Church with Christ and to Christ.

Night Prayer on Zoom - How it Works

Night Prayer on Zoom is a virtual gathering of parishioners who come together nightly to pray The Compline of the Church, Night Prayer.

The format that is followed includes: a welcome individually, opening reflection,  examine and quiet time, a short reading, petitions and finishes with a hymn. During the service there is an opportunity for anyone to make a prayer request. It takes about 20 minutes, or longer if you want to chat afterwards!

You don’t have to worry about the weather. It might be raining, snowing or the sun shining out there but we will be there.

You may meet regularly or occasionally, come and go as you please, be on camera or off camera, on your own or with others including children and babies, and the dog. There’s always a welcome for you.

We have marked some occasions (after praying) with songs, recitations, chat and storytelling from the gathering.
It is a great way being a part of the faith community and feeling connected to others. Why not give it a go!

Prayer Petitions

If you have a prayer petition, you are welcome to submit it here and it will be included in our night prayer gathering.

An Invitation to Night Prayer

This is My Story

There I was… wondering what I could do.
With lockdown, I couldn’t visit my dad in a nursing home or support him in the way I was used to.
The separation for us both was tough (as it was for many others too.)

I drummed up the courage to ask for prayers at our night prayer gathering.
With total acceptance of my worries, those there took my prayer into their hearts.
Knowing that my request for prayer was heard, lifted a weight I didn’t realise I was carrying.
I didn’t know whether my prayer would be answered in the way I had hoped.

In time I realised an answer would present itself, I just needed to open my eyes and heart to what that would be. Sharing my prayer helped me twofold: an understanding that my worry was shared, and the joy of knowing the prayer became the group’s prayer.

Prayer, written, spoken or unspoken brings us graces we never realise or expect when we are in that moment.
Engaging with and seeing my dad, although through a screen, was better than not seeing him at all.
