James compares the tongue to a rudder of a ship.* Even though the tongue is a small part of the body, it steers our life. What we say determines our path, so are we sending our words out in the direction we want our life to go?
David says God will crown the year with a bountiful harvest, and even the hard places will overflow with abundance.
We can go around saying: This year looks like another tough year,
or we can say: Father, thank You that even in a famine, even in a downturn, I am favoured.
Thank You that my circumstances or the economy do not limit you. Thank You that I am prosperous and will overflow with joy, peace, and strength.
The next time you’re tempted to say something negative about yourselves, your future, or your children, pray Psalm 22 instead.
Pray it loud and say your name after each personal pronoun:
The Lord in my (your name) shepherd;
there is nothing I (your name) shall want.
Pray for the grace to receive this Psalm with faith.
