The Introductory Rites
Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Penitential Rite will have a form of a reflection led by the celebrant and will be followed by the Confiteor
I confess to almighty God

The angel of the Lord came to Elijah in desert and woke him and said: “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too long for you.”
So Elijah got up and ate and drank and strengthened by this food he walked forty days and nights until he reached the mountain of God.

We make a sign of the cross on our foreheads, lips and hearts.
When they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them. ‘It is nearly evening’ they said ‘and the day is almost over.’ So he went in to stay with them. Now while he was with them at the table, he took the bread and said the blessing; then he broke it and handed it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognised him; but he had vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us?’ They set out that instant and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven assembled together with their companions, who said to them, ‘Yes, it is true. The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.’ Then they told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised him at the breaking of bread.

Prayer of the Faithful
Let us pray for Francis, our Pope, Dermot, Our Bishop, the Pastoral Team of our Parishes and all our leaders in faith. May all who shepherd the Church find inspiration in prayer and act in truthfulness.

Let us pray for our children – the future of our church – who are presented for the sacrament today. May our next generation discover a true hunger for God and a loving desire to grow in communion with God and one another.

Families are invited to bring forward the table cloth, candles, flowers, the corporal, the book and the bread and wine.
The celebrant of the day explains the meaning of each symbol.

Priest: God, our loving Father, we are glad to give you thanks and praise because you love us. With Jesus we sing your praise:

Priest: Blessed be Jesus, whom you sent to be the friend of children and of the poor.
He came to show us how we can love you, Father, by loving one another. He came to take away sin, which keeps us from being friends, and hate, which makes us all unhappy.
He promised to send the Holy Spirit, to be with us always so that we can live as your children.
Priest: God our Father, we now ask you to send your Holy Spirit to change these gifts of bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
The night before he died, Jesus your Son showed us how much you love us. When he was at supper with his disciples, he took bread and gave you thanks and praise. Then he broke the bread, gave it to his friends, and said:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it:
For this is my body which will be given up for you.
Priest: When supper was ended, Jesus took the cup that was filled with wine. He thanked you, gave it to his friends, and said:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new
and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Priest: Then he said to them: do this in memory of me.
All: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.
Priest: And so, loving Father, we remember that Jesus died and rose again to save the world. He put himself into our hands to be the sacrifice we offer you.
All: We praise you, we bless you, we thank you.
Priest: Lord our God listen to our prayer. Send the Holy Spirit to all of us who share in this meal. May this Spirit bring us closer together in the family of the Church, with {Frances}, our Pope, {name of local bishop}, our bishop, all other bishops, and all who serve your people.
All: We praise you, we bless you, we thank you.
Priest: Remember, Father, our families and friends (…), and all those we do not love as we should. Remember those who have died (…). Bring them home to you to be with you for ever.

The Communion Rite
